Mama’s Hip has over 1500 followers on Facebook and you can follow this popular parenting resource on Twitter as well. Louisville loves Mama’s Hip! What Mama’s Hip has done in Louisville is house a store where mommas, papas, grandmamas, nannies, and other caregivers can go for all of their natural and attachment parenting needs. But they have also exploded recently in what they offer other than purchases. The store has added all kinds of classes, seminars, playgroups, support groups, and charity work in addition to running the daily operations of their shopping and retail supplies. They are indeed, a community center, and have been busy creating events that really delve into their vision. According to the website, “Mama's Hip strives to support and guide parents along their journey by offering a welcoming community that raises awareness about healthy and sustainable parenting practices including breastfeeding, cloth diapering and baby wearing. Mama's Hip provides resources and products in alignment with natural and attachment parenting philosophies.”
One event in particular caught my eye recently. Mama’s Hip has begun a writer’s group for writing mamas called Mothers at the Well. Their first meeting is this Sunday, February 3 from 10:30am-12:30pm. The workshops are designed as a place to bring mothers together to share their own stories of the journey of motherhood. They were created by Shannon Stone, owner of Mama’s Hip, as a belief that “community is vital in the transition to motherhood.” She believes in connecting mothers with other mothers and has created those opportunities through Mama’s Hip. She is also the founder of the non-profit organization, Mama to Mama. Space is limited for the workshops; please contact shannonstone@mamas-hip.com to sign up or get more information.
