Economists say that bad economic times are the best to begin new business. Tara Patcheak, owner operator of Mrs. Potter’s Coffee (718 W. Main St.) has taken that to heart, and is currently expanding her busy coffee shop into the space next door by opening Mrs. Potter’s Coffee Lounge and Café.
Patcheak said, “This summer and fall, we were getting so crowded at times that there wasn’t room for not only more guests, but also very little for us to service the ones that we had. The space next door became available, so it seemed like the perfect time to grow.”
According to its website, "Mrs. Potter's Coffee Lounge & Cafe will offer the same great items, but will be significantly expanding our food menus and adding a full-bar!! Our new space will feature full-service dining with an expanded breakfast and lunch menu and a new appetizer menu. We will feature all local craft beers on tap, along with a wine list and many fun coffee cocktails."
Mrs. Potter’s has been operating on Main Street for almost two years and was immediately received by the neighborhood. The proximity to museums, hotels, and other tourist attractions as well as the growing downtown residential market has made for an excellent environment for this hometown gem to succeed. Patcheak emphasizes local products (her coffee is produced by Sunergos Roastery, a Louisville company), and offers a very homey environment in which to enjoy them.
Patcheak plans for the lounge to be open at the beginning of February and promises a different, but familiar experience. Until then, stop in and have a cup, and a conversation.
