How 'bout this weather, eh? Been on Facebook recently? That's where you can find all the latest weather news and updates. Or, you know, you could step outside. But this is 2013 – why go out when everything is at your fingertips via the internet? It's snowing right now. (Maybe not as you're reading this, but as I'm writing this, which is the night before you are reading it.) Yesterday (two days ago from your perspective) snow was unthinkable. Crazy weather here in the valley is nothing new, but for some reason we never fail to be astounded by it.
Listen: tomorrow, Saturday, February 2, is Groundhog Day. This is the day that Phil the groundhog from Punxatawney, Pennsylvania pokes his furry little head out of his burrow and observes the existence or nonexistence of his shadow. If it's there: six more weeks of winter. This does not apply to Louisville. Our weather will do whatever it wants regardless of what some hairy rodent says.
Meanwhile, you can head to Baxter Avenue Theaters later Saturday night for a midnight screening of the classic comedy Groundhog Day
. Bill Murray stars as Phil Connors, a meteorologist sent to Punxatawney to cover the Groundhog Day celebration for his news program. However, after going to sleep that night, he wakes up to find that it is Groundhog Day – again – and he is forced to relive the exact same day over and over, and he is free to act with zero consequences, as everything is erased when he goes to bed for the night.
Baxter Avenue Theater is located at 1250 Bardstown Road. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Baxter Avenue Theater website.
