Bourbon collecting has come under scrutiny in recent years. Industry leaders say that bourbon was meant to be drunk, not collected. Whiskey geeks are pushing back against bottle flippers. And your friendly local liquor store clerk is exasperated by your asking for Pappy all times of the year.
The most recent symptom of bottle collecting rage came in the form of Jell-O shots. Meta recently made headlines when they began making the college-party treat with their allocation of Pappy Van Winkle. They’ve done it again for Derby week.
But now they’ve moved past their Pappy rage and on to another rare bottle of bourbon. According to their facebook page, only six bottles of Jim Beam Distiller’s Masterpiece were allocated for Kentucky, and Meta is making snow cones with their allocation this week in celebration of The Kentucky Derby. (According to the Beam-Suntory website they are available for purchase at the distillery in Clermont for $199.) If you want to try a rare bourbon in snow cone or Jell-O shot form, Meta is the place for you.
