On Thursday the Louisville Bats embarked on their longest home stand of the season, while the game saw the Bats fall to the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees, the series which is set to end Sunday could be quickly turned around during the memorial day weekend. Following the Yankees, the Bats will continue their home stand on Memorial Day when they start a series with the Syracuse Chiefs a series that ends Thursday, June 2nd.
After that stand the Bats will see the Columbus Clippers the following day in a two day home series.
Thursday night’s game was for the most part a slow and steady offense from the Yankees which the Bats struggled with. The most exciting moments of the game proved to be when Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Aroldis Chapman, who is currently on the Bats roster after an injury, came in to fill the relief pitcher position, while Chapman struggled with control his over one hundred mile an hour fast balls certainly got the attention of the crowd.
During their Memorial weekend stand the Bats are offering promotions of free hat day for their 6:35 game on Friday, a Birdzerk appearance during Saturday’s 6:05 game, while the following day a fireworks display will conclude the game which starts at 6:05, and then Monday night is dollar hot dog and Pepsi night.
The following morning proved to be a cool second day for the 72nd Senior PGA Championship, but for the most part: no rain, so light jackets were thrown on and the rain outs from the preceding day as well as the scheduled Friday golf commenced.
There’s something pretty special about PGA events, I realized this after seeing Morris Hatalsky grab a golf ball out of his bag glancing out at the spectators, and handing it to a young boy talking to him a little bit before his second day round began.
Notably, at the ninth, around noon I caught the grouping of Kentucky favorite Kenny Perry, defending champion, Tom Lehman, and top 5 seeded Fred Funk. At the time, three of the top six on the leader board was coming out of that set, and many speculators have offered conjecture that the winner will come out of those three.
And, they didn’t disappoint as both Lehman and Funk, in the fairway sailed balls to the center of the green. Meanwhile, despite having trouble out of a bunker Perry quickly recovered with his next shot.
Despite so much fan fare surrounding those three the Japanese Kiyoshi Murota and four-time champion Hale Irwin have been breaking into those three all tournament. Irwin’s last championship actually came at Valhalla in 2004.
Championship rounds begin Saturday morning and are set to conclude Sunday evening, NBC will be offering network coverage from 3-6 both days, but golf will be played all day at Valhalla throughout Sunday night.
