The mayor is ready to move forward and help Louisville become a healthier place to live. He won our city an award “for a 2012 US Conference of Mayors Childhood Obesity Prevention” (Healthy Hometown Movement). The mayor has moved in the direction we want him to. He is working to make this city one of the healthiest places to live.

Living in a city surrounded by health promotion is a good thing; this is because we don’t want our children growing up to having more diseases than we could imagine. The obesity rate in America is soaring and states are working to help parents change their eating habits as well as their children’s. The faster we do this the more we will see health benefits all across the country.

Louisville has teamed up with the YMCA to give kids fresh fruits and vegetables instead of the processed foods most kids get for snacks. There will be another partnership meeting on February 10 at 10 am in the Forum at the Department of Public Health & Wellness. You can join the mayor there and help push these goals to help Louisville be a healthier place to live. The mayor has also introduced more places to walk. This helps us with finding easier and accessible places to walk/run and to achieve our goals of healthier living.

Restaurants are also keeping up with the mayor’s movement by using the Healthy Hometown menu labeling program. It is used in over 50 restaurants and this is such a helpful thing for customers. If customers start looking at the nutritional facts of what they are eating they will notice the better life they can live. Also those on diets ill highly appreciate the nutrition information as well, making it easier to calculate what they can eat.

The link below will lead you to the newsletter and it tells of the dates the next four Healthy Louisville meetings will take place. These are great programs to get involved with; one teaches about food another about biking in Louisville. There are many different groups and support around Louisville for this healthy movement. So jump on the band wagon and get to some of these meetings and learn more about becoming a healthy Louisville. Healthy Hometown News.
