As per John Seifert, State Forester of Indiana, the horse trails located at the northern end of the Clark State Forestry property in the Pekin/Henryville area have suffered total devastation from the March 2 F4 tornado that ripped through Southern Indiana.
Forestry personnel have been on the ground assessing the damage to the forestry property and trails and it has been determined that due to the extreme damage it is not safe for the public to use those trails located on the northern portion of the Forestry property. Signage will posted where trails are closed. Permits will not be issued to equestrian groups who normally help with trail cleanup in these areas after storm damage because of safety concerns for now.
The following horse trails are closed until further notice:
1. Mountain Grove Loop
2. Pekin Saddle Club area (DNR Land)
3. Both ends of Jackson Rd.
4. Flatwood Rd. Day Ride area
5. Both trail heads in the Pixley Knob area
However, for trail riding enthusiasts there is some good news. The horse trails on the southern end of the Clark State Forestry, at the Deams Lake State Recreational Area, did not get hit by the tornado so they will still be open to trail riders.
