Craps, love, and luck be the Music Theatre Louisville show Guys and Dolls, which opens on Friday.
Guys and Dolls performances will take place on July 15, 16, and 19-22 at 7 p.m. each night. Shows on July 17 and 23 will occur at 1:30 and 7 p.m. each day. All shows are to happen in the Bomhard Theater at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, located at 501 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.
Tickets for the 2 and 1/2 hour, all ages show are $27.50 per person. All tickets can be purchased at the Kentucky Center box office, the Kentucky Center website, or by calling the box office at 1-800-775-7777.
In Guys and Dolls, Sarah Brown is a pure-at-heart soul who leads the Save-A-Soul Mission on an endeavor to find sinners. Nathan Detroit, seeing a gambling opportunity, gets Sky Masterson, a big-time gambler with perhaps a bigger ego, to bet that Sky can get any girl into the club Havana.
Sky takes the opportunity to court Brown via joining her mission. Moments of musical mayhem, a riot, and the performance of memorable songs such as the title song, Luck Be a Lady, and Sit Down, You're Rockin the Boat, will take place. And there could even be a love story somewhere in this.
Frank Loesser created the music and lyrics for Guys and Dolls while Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling wrote the book. The musical is based on Damon Runyon's story The Idyll of Sarah Brown.
Guys and Dolls opened on Broadway in 1950 and ran for three years at the 46th Street Theatre. Guys and Dolls has since been revived on Broadway five times, including a limited run in 2009.
Following Guys and Dolls, Music Theatre Louisville will present Big: The Musical, which is based on the popular 1980s Tom Hanks movie. Performances will begin in August.
