    Bit to Do

The Louisville Convention and Visitor's Bureau and Mayor Greg Fischer recently announced the new "Lou's Brews," a guide for local residents and tourists of Louisville that highlights the local breweries around the city and Southern Indiana. This new addition to the bureau's website and the city was created by the Beer Work Group in 2014 as an effort by Mayor Fischer to grow the brewing industry. The city has been putting forth an effort to create more jobs and become a global food and spirits capital, and now with the abundance of local craft beer and breweries, Louisville is putting craft beer on the map along with bourbon and other fine spirits.

Recently, Mayor Fischer said of Lou's Brews, “Our city continues to gain popularity as a food and beverage destination. Lou’s Brews is one more reason to visit Louisville and our city’s unique authentic attractions. We have a great and growing collection of local breweries that are revitalizing our rich brewing history.” The Louisville Convention & Visitor's Bureau is ecstatic about this newest addition to the culinary side of Louisville. “Louisville is gaining a reputation as a spirits capital and culinary tourism destination with not only our bourbon distilleries, but world class brandy, liqueur, absinthe, moonshine, wine and craft beer makers as well,” said Karen Williams, president and CEO of Louisville Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. “With Lou's Brews, we hope to further increase visitation to Louisville by showcasing the city's rich brewing heritage and fine local product. Furthermore, we look forward to welcoming new breweries to Lou's Brews as our craft beer scene continues to grow.”

In anticipation of this launching of this newly created visitor experience, the city and Mayor Fischer are hosting a "Lou's Brews" bike ride in a couple of weeks. The bike ride will take place on Saturday, August 29 and the departure will be from Great Flood Brewing at 10 a.m. Great Flood Brewing is located at 2120 Bardstown Road. Bikers will ride along together during this brewery "crawl" and will make stops at five local breweries. Everyone attending will be given a tour of the facilities, conversations and meet and greets with the brewers and will also enjoy a small taste of their local crafts. Around 2 p.m. the bike ride portion of the event will end at Falls City Brewery with a street festival and block party. It is free and open to the public. Falls City Brewery is located at 120 N. 10th Street.

On the CVB Culinary Louisville site, the “Lou’s Brews” physical and virtual map is available. There are thirteen craft breweries in Louisville and Southern Indiana where residents and visitors alike can explore individually crafted beers. You can enjoy a fine craft beer at the following:

Against the Grain - 401 East Main Street
