Over the past few months, the profile of local musician Cheyenne Marie Mize has grown from respected local sidekick and band member to solo artist getting rave reviews in the New York Times. To help celebrate this week's release of her new CD Before Lately, on sonaBLAST! Records, and cement her ascent toward stardom, she will be performing Saturday October 16 at Christ Evangelical United Church in Louisville.

Icelandic singer and multi-instrumentalist Ólöf Arnalds, a classically trained violinist and striking vocalist, who sounds more like Kate Bush than she does her fellow Iceland native Björk, and Canadian alt country/folk singer-songwriter Doug Paisley will capably open the show.

According to the New York Times article, Mize has a rare voice, sweet without being cloying, and weary without hopelessness." They also tag her sound as chamber pop. Both seem to be good descriptions. Her sound is sparse but not boring; her musicianship accomplished.

In addition to her recording and touring - she is about to embark on a month-long North American tour to support Before Lately with the Louisville show being its second stop - Mize works with Norton Healthcare's Music Therapy program. In conjunction with that, she has released a song not found on the new album, Over The Moon, which features Maiden Radio. It's available for purchase for $1 at her bandcamp page. All proceeds from the online sales will be donated to the Norton Music Therapy fund to help with program costs and equipment.

Tickets for Saturday's show are $10. Christ Evangelical United Church is located at 1228 East Brekinridge Street. Doors open at 7:00 P.M., and the show starts at 8:00. To get you in the spirit, here's the video to her first single Friend and homemade footage of her cover of the Neutral Milk Hotel song Oh, Comely.
