It took some drama and anxiety, but the University of Louisville Men's soccer team defeated visiting Ohio State yesterday 2-1 at Cardinal Park. The victory gets the Cardinals into the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
A week after defeating College of Charleston and breaking attendance records for soccer in the state of Kentucky with 5,197 fans, the undefeated University of Louisville soccer team used their home field advantage again to score first in the contest, with Ohio State tying it up early in the second half. The Cardinals took less than 10 minutes to get the go-ahead go and survive for another week.
The #1 ranked Cardinals will host UCLA next weekend at Cardinal Park with a trip to the final four on the line. The matchup will be the toughest of the season for the Cards (18-0-3) as the 4-time NCAA champion UCLA Bruins ride a 27 consecutive year appearance in the tournament into Louisville. Prior to this season, the Cardinals have won just one NCAA tournament game.
Should the Cardinals continue their undefeated and wildly successful season against the Bruins, they'll earn a trip to the semi-finals and championship game held Dec 10-12 in Santa Barbara, California.
Cheers to the Cards for their incredible season thus far and best of luck to them next weekend vs UCLA at 7 pm on Saturday.
