Who doesn’t think classical music when they hear someone is going to throw a block party?

    I know I do.

Well that’s exactly what you’re about to get when the Louisville Orchestra throws a block party this weekend.  To wrap up their 2014-2015 season, April 25th Louisville Orchestra had intended to close down Main Street in front of the Kentucky Center For the Arts (Main Street between 5th and 6th Streets) for the Brown Foreman Block Party; but due to inclimate weather they have moved it inside of the Center for the Arts’ lobby.  The Block Party will still include games, food trucks, and multiple music groups; all in conjunction with their performance of Beetoven’s 5th.

Perhaps the coolest of music groups that will be performing is the Fifth Third Band Landfill Orchestra, being conducted by Louisville Orchestra Music Director Teddy Abrams, the Fifth Third Bank’s “Landfill” Orchestra is comprised of students from Hartstern Elementary, in the creation of an original piece of music to demonstrate the instruments the students made out of recycled materials collected by Fifth Third Bank branches.

The event is free and open to the public and runs from 12 PM-5 PM.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
