    • "Three decades after the AIDS epidemic first frightened the nation, the deadly immune disease is seeing a resurgence in Louisville, with rates of new cases up 30 percent in recent years." [Courier-Journal]
    • "Kentucky’s unemployment rate continues to hover around 10 percent, though it dropped slightly last month. Kentucky’s March jobless rate was 10.2 percent, compared to the February rate of 10.4 percent. In March 2010, the rate was 10.8 percent." [WFPL]
    • "After celebrating the renovation of a McDonald’s in west Louisville, Mayor Greg Fischer was called out by a member of his own recently-formed Food Policy Council who was disappointed in the message it sent to food justice advocates. The fast food restaurant at 28th and Broadway was closed for a few months for remodeling, but re-opened Thursday with a celebration of dance crews, drum lines and a visit from Ronald McDonald. Fischer attended the festivities and praised the store’s owner, but a local food justice advocate was displeased enough to voice her frustration." [WFPL]
    • "Trader Joe’s announced Thursday it will indeed open a Louisville store this year. The store will be at 4600 Shelbyville Road — the Shelbyville Road Plaza in St. Matthews, said Alison Mochizuki, spokeswoman for Trader Joe’s, based in Monrovia, Calif.     • "The Louisville Metro Council will discuss a measure Thursday evening that if approved will drastically change traffic patterns in the Old Louisville neighborhood. An ordinance introduced by Councilman David James, D-6, seeks to convert portions of First and Brook streets into two-way streets. Local business owners in the district have been supportive of the new traffic plan for a number of years and previous city representatives have studied the issue." [WFPL]
