Ophthalmologists — eye surgeons who graduated from medical school — fought the bill, arguing that optometrists are not qualified to perform surgery. Optometrists do not attend medical school, but they do receive four years of optometry training after graduating from college and are trained to detect vision defects and prescribe corrective lenses." - "With a presidential bid possibly in his near future, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels spoke this week about his drug conviction and the evolution of his political views as a college student. 'I don't make excuses for anything. Justice was served," Daniels said in an interview with The Daily Princetonian published Thursday. In the spring of 1970, Daniels, then a junior at Princeton University, was arrested for marijuana use and eventually paid a $350 fine for 'maintaining a common nuisance.'" [Courier-Journal]
