Friday night saw flying pucks and elbows during the University of Louisville’s hockey game against Holy Cross which opened their season.

After Holy Cross struck first and seemed dominant early on in the game the Cards managed to pull out the win as the contest continued, with a final score of 5-4.

The team plays its home games at the Iceland Complex in south Louisville in an environment that might make one think of Minnesota in February. Consequently my attire of shorts and sandals didn’t bode well for yours truly thermometically speaking.

That aside, the Cards put on an impressive display seeming to only struggle with speed early on in the game, outside of that the guys with the bird on their jerseys proved themselves an aggressive team with a high hockey I.Q. understanding where they needed to be at all times.

The score is a nod to the even matchup though, as Holy Cross certainly came out to play themselves, boasting a defense which proved to be a great strength as the game progressed.

And the strength of the Saints of Holy Cross proved itself unquestionably during the teams’ second meeting the following day, when they took a victory of their own on Saturday with a final score of 7-2.

The Cards are suiting up again on Friday for their first away game of the season at Cincinnati, they return Saturday to host the Bearcats in inner-conference play.

Other home games of note include October 26th and 27th’s series against Indiana, November 9th and 10th’s matchups against Vanderbilt, November 17th and 18th’s battles against Notre Dame, January 18th and 19th’s competitions against Tennessee, and of course the rivalry game against Kentucky February 16th.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
