The Louisville Sports Catholic Hall of Fame has officially announced their second round of inductees into the hall which began last year.
And, this year’s list of inductees had a number of athletes who have certainly made a name for themselves within the Kentuckiana area. First, last year inductee Howard Schnellenberger, awarded his new Schnellenerberger Award to the Brohm Family, who have been mainstays in the area now for years.
In fact, the family has three all-state quarterbacks, however the family began with the patriarch Oscar Brohm who was an all-star QB at Flaget high school, before playing for the university of Louisville in the late ’60’s.
Some time later Greg Brohm came along and was a superstar at Trinity high school leading the team, like his father Greg went to play his college ball with the Cards, where he was a standout. Today, Greg is a coach at Bardstown’s Thomas Nelson High School.
While, Greg suited up with Trinity his brother Jeff was leading the team in the QB position to three state titles. After his time with the family Alma Mater, Jeff was the first Brohm to make it to the pros, playing in the NFL for seven years, where he saw a great deal of playing time as a pro.
Then of course, you have Brian, who would be a standout with the Cards like his predecessors prior to his own NFL career playing with the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills.
Then, Kim Brohm had an amazing career on her own leading Mercy Academy and Spalding University in a number of sports including volleyball, basketball, and softball.
For Forty years, Father Harry Jansing was an athletic director at Trinity, and though he passed in ’92 his long career of service in area athletics will forever be remembered in the community, and as such he too became a 2013 inductee into the hall.
In addition to Jansing was golfer Frank Beard, who won the 1957 state golf championship. In addition during his pro career he won eleven PGA events.
Also, all star linebacker Joe Fiderspiel who was a standout at DeSales, Kentucky, and then in the pros with the New Orleans Saints, next Leigh Ann-Fetter Witt who was a 1988 Olympic swimmer, Ron Kordes has been an all-star coach at Assumption for 22 years now and as such his induction is no surprise.
Other inductees included football stand out and famed coach Johnny Meihaus, football star in college and the pros Maurice Moorman, and athletic director and basketball coach for Sullivan, Jim Spalding who received the honor posthumously.                                                                                                                                                               Image courtesy of FanBase.com

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
