The Louisville Catholic Sports hall of fame officially inducted its first class effectively opening its doors so to speak last Thursday at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

The hall is a new venture from the Louisville Catholic Sports Network which honors the legends and icons that have come before within Catholic Sports.

In this, the first year of the hall the inductees include:

    - NFL Hall of Famer, Heisman Trophy Winner, and Superbowl Champion Paul Hornung
    - Olympian swimmer and entrepreneur Mary T. Meagher
    - NCAA All-Star player and coach Howard Schnellenberger
    - PGA Champion golfer Bobby Nichols
    - Football legend Bubba Paris
    - Athlete, coach, and entrepreneur Will Wolford
    - High School swimming coach Marty O’Toole
    - Area girls’ sports icon Bunny Daugherty
    - High School football coach Paulie Miller
    - Basketball all star and Olympian Mike Silliman
    - Cincinnati Reds hall of famer Gus Bell
    - Area contributor Karl Schmitt
    - Catholic sports athletic association founder Father Tom Gentile

In addition to the ceremony a reception was held at the Bohmhard Theatre.

The hall itself was actually an idea from Steve Fehder, who owns and operates LouisvilleCatholicSports.com. And the event proved itself to be a reverential and positive experience for those in attendance. Hosted by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Billy Reed and with additional input from WAVE3’s Kent Taylor and Brown-Forman Corp’s Paul Varga the event proved itself to be a worthwhile venture for not just Catholic Sports in Louisville but for all sports in the region.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
