Founded in 2004, the Louisville Ale Club has about 200 members (187 in its Facebook group anyway), 25 to 40 of whom gather monthly to relax and enjoy beer.

While, yes, it is possible to enjoy beer without belonging to a group, the Louisville Ale Club enables event attendees to gather with a mix of people from all backgrounds and talk about something they love--beer. (While "ale" is in the group's name, it celebrates all variations of beer. Although having attended the club's June meeting, it's clear members did favor ales.)

There is no cost to be a member of the Louisville Ale Club. The club's next meeting is this Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Browning's (401 E. Main St). There'll be happy hour specials of $3 pints and 15 percent off appetizers. RSVP at the event's Facebook page.

There'll also be a discussion about wheat beers.

The group's officers choose the site of the monthly meetings, and are "committed to trying out old favorite and new taverns/pubs/venues that serve a variety of our favorite brewed beverages." Previous locations include Derby City Espresso, Rocky's Italian Grill and BBC.
