Losing weight one meal at a time: Z Salon & Spa’s first health & wellness semina

The doors at Z Salon & Spa at Shelbyville Road stayed open a little bit longer Wednesday evening, and it wasn’t because of back massages and chemical peels. As a part of its new, monthly “Health & Wellness Seminar” series, which began Wednesday, October 17, Z Salon & Spa hosted Bethany Reul, certified personal trainer and owner of B Powerful. Specializing as a weight loss coach and meal-planning specialist, Reul shared easy vegetarian recipes and her various meal planning tips with an eager crowd at the popular spa.

Motivated by a fiery passion and her father’s diabetic condition, Reul has been a certified personal trainer for over six years. During her seminar, an energized Reul explained how she has been able to maintain her lean body frame with a caloric intake of about 2,200 calories a day. For her, consistent exercise and meal planning has been key.

In her seminar, Reul shared how everyone can still eat the foods they love, while also taking a healthier route. For example, for fruit lovers, Reul suggested opting for more apples and berries instead of citrus fruits or bananas, which are packed with sugar. For those who can't get enough of dairy products, Reul recommended trading out American cheese for say, almond cheese, and 1% milk for almond milk. Reul also reiterated eating five to six small meals a day and to also prepare all meals on Sunday to make for quick grab-and-gos throughout the week. Understanding the we all have different body types and needs, Reul shared how we can all make planning our meals a little bit healthier and a little bit easier.

Did I mention that she also included tasty recipes for Mexican quinoa and open-face garden sandwiches?

Reul kicked off the first session of Z Salon & Spa’s “Health & Wellness Seminar” series, but there is much more to come. Featuring a different topic each month, the seminar hopes to encourage and inspire those seeking a healthier and better lifestyle.
