    Monday (1/18)

    Zanzabar
Join Nashville’s Zach Schmidt alongside Louisville’s Brent Mathis and Tim Delonjay for a singer-songwriter show. These country folk artists have written great stories. Let them share them with you.

    The Highlands Taproom
Monday at the tap room means METAL. This week Tombstalker is invading, performing “Black Crusades” from beginning to end.

    Tuesday (1/19)

    Zanzabar
Unfortunately, this will be the last chance to see the retro pop-punk outfit in Louisville. The Nashville group announced in December they would be taking an indefinite hiatus after their January tour, luckily we made the list! This show is one you don’t want to miss. They were dubbed one of the best live shows in Paste Magazine in 2014. So, come say goodbye and rock out with Those Darlins one last time.
    Mercury Ballroom
The members of Greensky Bluegrass are not your typical bluegrass pickers. They’ve got the strings we love, but their sound expands beyond the influence of Appalachia. Their cover of Pink Floyd’s “Time” exemplifies this.
    Greyhaven, Concealer
    The New Old Taproom
This is a FREE show featuring two hardcore Louisville bands.

    Wednesday (1/20)

    Fourth Street Live!
He ain’t rich, but he damn sure wants to be, and he also wants a boat. The American pop country singer is bringing his hits for all the country music fans to hear. I wonder if you can get in for free if you show up in a boat?

    Thursday (1/21)

    Zanzabar
I’m really pumped for this one. Bully is one of my latest obsessions. They’ve got feels of 90s alt bands like The Vaselines, The Breeders, and Pavement, but so much more. Front (wo)man, Alicia Bognanno, writes these punchy self-exploiting lyrics that give the band a relatable element. The pop hooks are catchy with a grunge influence. Playing with Bully is Chicago band, Fake Limbs, and Louisville’s very own, Brenda.
    Headliners Music Hall
Session musician, sideman, solo performer, whatever, Leon Russell is a music legend. The multi-instrumentalist and songwriter has played alongside popular musicians like Elton John, Ray Charles, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Band, and many, many more. Also performing is Louisville’s upcoming Americana artist, Justin Paul Lewis.
    Red Barn
Good luck getting tickets to this one. The Student Activities Board of U of L put together this sick line up, but only for students, well, kind of. A U of L student can purchase two tickets and then bring a non-student guest, but boy does that sound like a lot of work.

    Friday (1/22)

    Headliners Music Hall
My inner psyche is foreseeing this show being a packed one, if not sold out. Since Wax Fang has resurfaced, it’s their first headlining show of the year. Plus, they’ve got The Features and Ancient Warfare backing them. Check out our recent interview with Wax Fang and read about what they’ve been up to.
    Zanzabar
Naytonix is Nate Brenner’s solo project. Brenner was the touring bassist for the Tune-Yards, but is now experimenting with a more electronic groove.

    Haymarket Whiskey Bar
This is a night not only for live music but art. Local musicians will play, and local artists will peddle their goods!
    Manny & Merle
This Louisville bluegrass/jamgrass group used to play across from a restaurant I worked at. I always made an excuse to go outside and “clean tables” so that I could hear them play. They did a cover of a Ween song and gained my respect immediately.
    Zanzabar
    More bluegrass for the soul!
    Mercury Ballroom
Another country artist making their way through.
    Kaiju
Powell, the band of brothers, literally, has a nice psych rock sound going. They’re fun live, too. We did an interview with them a while back, check it out
    Headliners Music Hall
Another installment in the 107.7 The Eagle’s “Cover Up Series” is The Allman Brothers Band! Well, not really, but it is a tribute to one of America’s greatest rock bands.
    Third Street Dive
A rockabilly, honky tonk blues musician with an outlaw attitude. O’Riley’s music harkens an era of Hank Williams meets Elvis Presley.

    About Katie Molck

Loretta Lynn is the best country music singer of all time and if you don't like pickled foods, you can leave.
