This is a dream. It's dark. There's a foggy hallway. On the walls, framed paintings of neon furbies. What? First step taken, a snare starts in, cymbals. A voice like old-school Janet Jackson starts up from the room at the end of the hall. Lights are flashing from within, green then purple then blue. Intrigued, more steps, faster now, a sashay. Place hand on the silver doorframe then step in. See a ton of tiny mythical creatures -- unicorns, phoenixes, dragons, what have you -- swaying then watch 'em shake when the beat drops dance pop. Join in.
Little Dragon, a trip hop/ synthpop/ indietronica/ neo soul band from Gothenburg, Sweden, craves the dream. Incorporates the surreal elements of dreams, slowed down and sexy then suddenly hyped and fleeting, in all of their albums. Their most recently released album is their fourth, 2014's "Nabuma Rubberband," which explores the darker side of their musical project, that long hallway.
And they'll be bringing that dream to 4th Street's Mercury Ballroom this Thursday, October 16th at 8pm. Tickets are $25.75 in advance.
Frontwoman Yukimi Nagano will walk us through. And considering we're playing with dragons, we may all leave on fire.
