Outfitting a kayak or canoe is a way to customize it to your specific needs. River City Canoe and Kayak in Louisville will offer an Outfitting Class on Thursday, January 6 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. While I normally associate outfitting with whitewater boats, River City's owner, Doug Davis, explained that the class will be useful for those who prefer paddling calmer waters, as well.

Recreational paddlers will learn, "how to replace busted parts or install custom additions like anchors or fishing pole mounts," and "how to further outfit your seat for extra comfort on long trips." Owners of old canoes, like myself, can learn about, "gluing in knee pads and D-ring mounting points (to attach gear to), installing Kevlar skid plates, and moving thwarts to customize the beam of the canoe."

Whitewater kayakers can learn about changing their seat position to improve handling, adding knee supports, and improving rolling ability by fitting the hips properly.

The class costs $10. Though there is no registration deadline, you are encouraged to register early. See more at River City Canoe and Kayak or call the store at 502.384.3737.
