In observance of Black History Month, the Kentucky Opera will perform its “Oh Freedom” touring program on Saturday, February 6 at 3:00 P.M. in the Amy Cralle Theater, Wyatt Center for the Arts at Bellarmine University.

The production, based on the song of the same name, chronicles some of the history of African-Americans in Kentucky. According to Bellarmine Director of Choral Activities Dr. Alexander T. Simpson Jr., “The concept of the original work was written to chronicle such events in Virginia, but other states, including Kentucky and Ohio, have reworked the composition to reflect that particular state’s heritage.” Dr. Simpson adds that this version will include brand new elements, with recent music contributed by local composer and jazz pianist Harry Pickens.

The performance is free and open to the public. For more information on other Black History Month events at Bellarmine, contact T

abatha Thompson, Director of Media Relations, at 452-8329 or tthompson@bellarmine.edu.
