Octoberfest and Rocktober may be leading in name recognition among October celebrations, but I’d love to see Choctoberfest join them. Come on, it’s about chocolate!

Just Creations is gearing up for its Choctoberfest celebration, October 21 through October 26. The shop seeks out Fair Trade products from around the world, and Fair Trade chocolate is key to Choctoberfest. The store carries Fair Trade chocolate, along with sugar, coconut and other goodies in its baking section.

During Choctoberfest week, customers can sample these chocolates and enter a raffle for a $100 Chocolate Sampler Gift Pack. Raffle entries and 15 percent of chocolate sales during this week will go to Global Mamas’ Building Prosperity Campaign, creating a Fair Trade zone in Ghana.

Wednesday, October 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., during the Customer Appreciation Party, you’ll find door prizes and free gift with purchase, as well as a cooking demonstration from Fred Moore of Coco’s Chocolate Cafe. And the big event of the evening will be the Fair Trade Chocolate Bake-Off. A panel of judges from Sweet Surrender, LouisvilleHotBytes.com and other local sites will judge the sweet entries for Taste and Presentation awards. Customers attending the event will vote for the Fan Favorite prize.

If you want to enter the Bake-Off, send your registration and your recipe to Just Creations by October 18. You can register by calling 897-7319 or emailing info@justcreations.org.

Not entering? That means you get to taste the entries and vote for the Fan Favorite on October 23rd. Lucky you.
