The Trinity High School football team has easily played the toughest schedule in the state of Kentucky so far this season. The Shamrocks have faced five out-of-state teams, almost all of whom were ranked nationally.

Trinity lost its first two games by seven and three points, respectively, but has since won its last three in a row, including a 35-32 win over Cocoa (Fla.) last Friday. That victory helped the Shamrocks leapfrog archrival St. Xavier, which lost 26-0 to Cincinnati Moeller last Friday, to move to No. 2 in this week’s Louisville.com Jefferson County Power Rankings.

Male, which didn’t play last week, remains No. 1.

Here’s a quick look at our Top 10:

    1. Male (4-0) - The Bulldogs, who are averaging nearly 50 points per game, face their toughest test to date Friday night against Ballard (3-2). Last week’s ranking: 1.

    2. Trinity (3-2) - The Shamrocks, who are led by running back Donald Brooks (the top rusher in Class 6-A), play at Indianapolis Cathedral on Friday night. Last week: 3.

    3. St. Xavier (3-2) - The Tigers were shutout for the second time in three weeks, losing to powerhouse Cincinnati Moeller 26-0 last Friday. They’ll try to bounce back Friday night, when they host 3-A power, and eighth-ranked, Central (3-2). Last week: 2.

    4. Manual (4-0) - The Crimsons - who have the top scoring defense in the state so far (giving up 5.3 points per game) - beat Ballard 13-7 last Friday night. They’ll get another test Friday night, when they host Seneca (3-1). Last week: 4.

    5. DeSales (5-0) - The 2-A Colts routed previously-unbeaten Shawnee, which played without its starting quarterback, 65-16 last Friday night. DeSales, which has the No. 2 rushing defense and No. 3 scoring D in 2-A, plays at unbeaten Bardstown (4-0) on Friday. Last week: 5.

    6. Christian Academy of Louisville (5-0) - The 2-A Centurions walloped winless Washington County 56-7 last Friday night. They host Shawnee (4-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in what could be an interesting game. Last week: 6.

    7. Central (3-2) - The 3-A Yellowjackets won their third straight game, beating 4-A Western 26-20 last Friday night. They get a big test Friday night, when they play at 6-A, and third-ranked, St. X. Last week: 8.

    8. Fern Creek (2-1) - The 6-A Tigers mauled Moore 38-6 last Friday night behind Shamar Bryant’s three touchdown passes and a defense that held the Mustangs to negative 19 rushing yards. Fern Creek plays its fourth straight road game Friday night at Southern. Last week: 8.

    9. Seneca (3-1) - The Redhawks rolled over Eastern 40-23 last Friday night behind Travon Harris’ 240 rushing yards and five touchdowns. They have a tough game Friday night, at No. 4 Manual. Last week: unranked.

    10. Iroquois (5-0) - The Raiders remained unbeaten with a 41-0 rout of Kentucky Country Day last Friday night behind Germone Kohn’s 158 rushing yards and two touchdowns. They play at traditional power John Hardin (1-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday night. Last week: unranked.
