In a statement on Wednesday, July 8, NiFi Festival organizers announced that the three-day music festival, set to be held August 25-30, had been cancelled due to low tickets sales to-date.
The festival, first announced May 6, 2015, was anticipated as a new kind of festival, hosting a wide range of acts - Green Day, Kings of Leon and Miranda Lambert were to headline, joined by the likes of Weezer, Spoon, Hank Williams, Jr, Moon Taxi and Flogging Molly - to create a truly diverse weekend at Kentucky Speedway.
Initially, the festival flew under the radar, really picking up steam after being featured by Rolling Stone. It was to be the first in a series of national music festivals launched by California-based entertainment group Nitro Fidelity, in partnership with Speedway Motorsports, Inc. More festivals have been planned in Dallas and Charlotte, to be held in 2016.
Organizers originally projected attendance for Nifi to land at 30,000, and first tier three-day general admission tickets were priced at $245, bumping up to $295 and $325 as tiers sold out.
It’s yet to be seen whether the event will be rescheduled, or if organizers will attempt to hold it again next year.
