If you give a butterfly a birthday party, chances are it’ll be the GREATEST!

This Monday, January 17th, celebrate two influential African American leaders in Louisville. Muhammad Ali’s 69th Birthday and the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech will be honored at the Ali Center. Guests 12 and under will receive FREE admission to tour the museum all day and can experience a host of special events paying tribute to these iconic African American leaders.

Jefferson County Public Schools are on holiday, so bring the kiddos to the Ali Center where they can view the historic “I Have a Dream” speech on the hour, every hour, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Center’s auditorium. A meet-and-greet with Earl Lloyd, the first African American to play in the NBA, will be from 9:30-10:30 and 3:00-4:00 in the lobby. Autographed photos will be dispersed while supplies last. Autographed copies of Muhammad Ali Through the Years will be sold at discounted prices in the lobby.

Additional activities planned to celebrate Ali’s birthday include a performance by the Kentucky Opera at 2:00, a chance to experience the new mobile scavenger hunt entitled “Ali is Fine at 69,” a chance to sign Ali’s birthday card, and of course, balloons.

Adult admission to this event is a mere 2 bucks, but with the donation of a used cell phone for recycling, the entire family is FREE. Phones will be recycled by the Alltech-Muhammad Ali Center Global Education and Charitable Fund and sent to third-world countries in an effort to bring communication to impoverished communities.

The Muhammad Ali Center is located at 144 North Sixth Street. For more information, visit www.alicenter.org or call 584-9254.
