Martin Luther King Jr.'s last hours at the Lorraine Motel are told in the fictional account The Mountaintop, which opens at Actors Theatre tomorrow.
The Mountaintop will take place at various times between Oct. 8-27. All performances are to happen in the Pamela Brown Auditorium at Actors Theatre, located at 316 W Main Street in downtown Louisville.
Tickets for each show range from $24-$59, depending on the show. All tickets can be purchased by going to the Actors Theatre box office, the Actors Theatre website, or by calling the box office at 502-584-1205. Keep in mind that due to strong language, the production is recommended for those 13 and up.
The Mountaintop takes place almost solely in Room 306 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN, on April 3, 1968. Dr. Martin Luther King has returned to his room after a speech for striking sanitation workers. While there, a mysterious maid appears and begins speaking with King. Soon, the two converse about issues centered on legacy, leadership, and mortality. It also becomes clear that the maid is there for a bigger reason.
Katori Hall created the production, which Giovanna Sardelli directed for Actors Theatre.
During The Mountaintop's run, Actors Theatre will also present Dracula. The Halloween favorite will continue until Oct. 31. More information on the shows can be found at the Actors Theatre website.
