    Bit to Do

Hello, Christmas: The Summit welcomes the holiday in a family affair

The Summit brought in the holiday season in its annual kickoff event, Lights Up, Friday evening. As fireworks painted the sky and as Santa made his highly anticipated appearance, Lights Up kicked off the holiday season in style for the east shopping center.

A large crowd flooded to The Summit, which was blocked off from the shopping center's Terrace to Qdoba, eager to participate in the night’s festivities. An explosive fireworks show begin the annual holiday kickoff, leaving crowds of children - and even incoming traffic - sitting in awe. But the lights didn't stop there. Backing up its name, Lights Up pulled out all the stops to light up the night, including an abundance of festive lights that wowed visitors upon entering The Summit.

One of those stops included Santa, who stopped by The Summit Friday night to light up the faces of children all across the city. In addition to Santa and a few of his elves, Lights Up had everything from balloon making to various games to keep the kids happy during the cold night. Businesses also got in on some of the fun, as Rabbit in the Moon provided free face paintings and as Gigi’s handed out miniature cupcakes throughout the night. Representatives from The Nutcracker, The Mommy Nest, and The Courier-Journal were also present at the holiday event.

With 100.5 Gen Xmas playing classic Christmas jams, elves prancing around, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree standing in the Terrace, Christmas spirit was everywhere. The Summit’s seventh annual Lights Up event did it again and plans to continue the fun for years to come.
