Jamgrass? Trashgrass? Whatever you call this unique hybrid of mandolin- and banjo-driven, fast-driving jam band music, leave it to the Rumpke Mountain Boys to bring it on back to the Bluegrass State.
The Cincinnati-based quartet celebrates ten years of cross-genre originals and fresh takes on covers (think traditional Appalachian mountain music with Tom Waits, the Grateful Dead and a little Jimmy Cliff reggae influences thrown in) with their first local show of the year.
Don't just take my word for it--the Boys just took home the 2009 Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Best Bluegrass Group, but if you like your 'grass a little more mind-bending, this show's for you. So if you missed the Boys at Headliners last month with Kentucky Fried Pickin'--or just want to experience them again in a more intimate setting--check 'em out Friday, January 8 at the Hideaway Saloon, 1607 Bardstown Road, 485-0114. Music starts at 11:00; $5 cover.(Photo: Courtesy of Rumpke Mountain Boys)
