This Thunder Eve, do something a little different.

Friday, April 11th marks the fourth annual Cocktails and Karaoke, a fundraiser to benefit Shakespeare Behind Bars.

The event, which takes place starting at 9pm at Amici Café in Old Louisville, includes returning Karaoke DJ Johnny Lightning, raffle baskets and theatre ticket giveaways. Admission is a $5 suggested donation at the door.

Shakespeare Behind Bars (SBB), which began in 1995 to serve inmates at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex, has grown by leaps and bounds in its mission to use the works of Shakespeare to help the incarcerated “develop life skills that will ensure their successful reintegration into society.”

In recent years, SBB has expanded to include programming for incarcerated adults at three Kentucky facilities and one in Michigan, as well as programming for at-risk youth at facilities including the Louisville Day Treatment Center, Maryhurst and Home of the Innocents.

Shakespeare Behind Bars is a 501(c)(3), not-fo-profit organization.

Amici Café is located at 316 W. Ormsby, Louisville, KY 40203.

    About Michelle Rynbrandt

Before landing in the Possibility City, Michelle toured the country performing in various regional theatres. Having been there and done that, she can honestly say that Louisville's cultural opportunities are second to none.
