They’re baaaaack! The sports team that dazzles fans with smooth moves, crazy shots and fabulous hair and style comes to town at Freedom Hall this weekend on Sunday, January 18th at 2 PM. Bring the whole family out for an afternoon of basketball AND entertainment!

The Harlem Globetrotters have played in over 20,000 exhibition games in over 100 countries over their 75+ year history. The beginning Globetrotter days are archived as having their roots in the Chicago area as early as the 1920’s. They team members were predominantly African American, giving them the name
"Harlem". It wasn’t until the late 1960’s that they had their first “home” game in Harlem, NY.

The Globetrotters have been animated on several TV series, including their own Saturday morning show in the late 70’s, and have made appearances on the "Scooby Doo Show" & animated Scooby Doo movies. The team even had their own comic book and soundtrack album.

The team and its antics have had a resurgence over the last few years, playing as many as 100 games a year across the country. They have had media appearances on the "Today Show" on NBC as well as other highly publicized outlets.

New to the team this year is a player most University of Kentucky fans will remember. Shagari Alleyne, former UK Wildcat, joins the Harlem Globetrotters, listed on the roster as Skyscraper Alleyne.

The official Harlem Globetrotters website has this to say about the former Kentucky player “Being a Globetrotter is a perfect fit for Skyscraper, because he has always had that desire to entertain. Besides rapping and writing hip-hop lyrics, ‘I could see myself being a late night radio personality or a sports commentator’, he says. “

The players and rosters differ from game to game, but hopefully Shagari (Skyscraper) Alleyne will make an appearance back at his Old Kentucky Home!

Tickets can be purchased on www.ticketmaster.com, select Kroger grocery stores or by calling (502) 361-3100. Ticket prices range from $22 to $110 for premier seating.
