I wonder if you asked artist Todd Smith if he could be any animal if he would choose an eagle. Smith has been making nests out of any material that is “found, recycled, reused or already owned” according to his Twitter account during his four-month art residency at Bernheim Forest. He has been able to use cardboard, aluminum cans, hand-formed staples made from bailing wire and there is even a tiny square window plus speakers! It’s officially become hi-fi!
Smith has been climbing trees as an art form since 2007. Check out this photo he posted to Twitter while walking the limbs at Bernheim.

So what’s it all mean? Who’s going to be living in his newest nest? Is it going to be put in one of the millions of trees at Bernheim? You’ll have to come to his artist talk to find out. The talk is from 2 – 3 p.m. in the Education Center on Saturday (Jan 21) at Bernheim. There is a $5 per car environmental impact fee to enter the forest.
