In the Mood - Begin the Beguine - Tuxedo Junction. If you recognize these classics of the golden era of swing music, then you probably recognize the name Glenn Miller as well. Miller was one of the greats of the big band swing era, and while he may be gone (he’s listed as missing in action from World War II) his music lives on in the form it did when he was the leader of his very own band - the Glenn Miller Orchestra. This Monday, the new generation of this classic big band are playing at the Derby Dinner Playhouse, and if you’re anything like me you’re probably jumpin’ at the chance to check out this gig!
This particular show is a dessert matinee at 4 p.m. (doors open at 3 p.m.), and the 19-man ensemble will be playing some of the best swing music ever written for one night only. There’s also an evening show, but that’s sold out - you don’t have much time to book your matinee tickets either, so hustle on over to the Derby Dinner Playhouse’s Website as quick as you can! Tickets are $25 dollars, which is a real bargain for this kind of live performance - how often does a group like the Glenn Miller Orchestra come to town?
