It’s summertime. A great time to be outdoors, experience nature, and spend a lot of money on entertainment.
Or not.
Many venues in the Louisville area offer free entertainment—that is, they don’t cost any money to attend. Which means that you can bring the whole family or just go by yourself and still have money left over for the dollar ice cream cones at McDonald’s.

Cherokee Triangle Summer Concert Series: Sunday evenings from 7-9pm. Do not bring your pets; do bring canned goods or toiletries to support the Dare to Care Food Bank.

Jeffersonville Riverstage: Offers free evening concerts every Friday at 7pm, free evening fitness classes Monday through Saturday, and a Twilight Cinema series on Saturday nights, where families can gather for child-friendly films. The complete schedule is listed online. Highlights include:

The Summit Shopping Center: Music on the Terrace on Thursdays in June and July at 6:30. Offering a wide variety of genres from classic rock to blues. Complete schedule online. Sample concerts:

Jeffersonville Main Street Concerts in the Park: Fridays, May through September at Warder Park (corner of Court Ave. and Spring St.). May and September concerts are at 7pm; June-August concerts are at 7:30. Big Band, swing, classic country and show tunes. Find the schedule and details here.
Hot Country Nights at Fourth Street Live: Free concerts Friday nights in June and July at 8pm; all ages admitted but those under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. After 9pm, only guests 21+ can enter.

Kentucky Shakespeare: Presents Much Ado About Nothing July 12-29; every evening except Mondays at 8:30pm in Central Park in Old Louisville. New this year: Monday night movie nights in the park at 9:30, beginning July 9.
