    Bit to Do

    Brett Dennen

Northern California native Brett Dennen will play Headliners on Sunday, March 9, touring behind his fifth studio album, Smoke and Mirrors, which came out last fall.

Dennen, a folk-pop singer, is instantly recognizable with his unruly red hair and freckled face that makes him look younger than his actual years. He is known for strong melodies, catchy lyrics, and generally feel-good music. Dennen's warm, androgynous voice is distinct as well, evoking the comfortable feeling of someone singing around a camp fire. That image is not far off the mark -- Dennen is an avid hiker and nature lover (one look at his website will convince you), and spent his younger years as a camp counselor. He is also very involved in The Mosaic Project, a non-profit program for 4th- and 5th graders that brings together children of different backgrounds in an outdoor environment to teach them community-building and peacemaking skills.

The 8 p.m. show (doors at 7 p.m., 18 and over) is this Sunday at Headliners and will be opened by Foy Vance. Tickets are $20 in advance and $22 at the door.

Below is the official video for the single, "Wild Child":
