Welcome back, ladies and gents, to another edition of What's Playing at the Floyd Theater, wherein we discuss what's playing at the Floyd Theater. This time we have the undead and the immortal, meditations on life and death, all amidst cross-cultural backdrops. It's all very exciting. Fasten your seatbelts.
This weekend, check out the latest zombie action movie (because I maintain [especially to one of my sisters, who was scared of getting scared] that this is an action film, not a horror film) – World War Z. Brad Pitt is Gerry Lane, a former military man who specialized in getting people into and out of sticky situations. As the hordes of undead threaten world domination, he is catapulted back into action to help try to find the source of the outbreak, and a possible cure. This is an excellent film, folks. The action starts right off and doesn't let off. Plus, Brad Pitt in a zombie movie. He is, as usual, impeccable. World War Z plays tonight, Friday, at 5:00 and 8:00, and Saturday at the same times.
Stick around Friday night for a special midnight screening of The Wolverine. While you might think it's about those adorable and cuddly Australian bundles of fur, it is actually about Hugh Jackman, who is, anyway, appropriately covered in fur. Jackman reprises his role as what seems to be the most popular X-Man (and, to be honest, I'm not sure where in the chronology of the series this lies, as I never saw First Class or Origins). In this outing, Logan, aka Wolverine, travels to Japan to see an old acquaintance. There, he eventually becomes mortal and all sorts of fighting happens. It is, by all accounts, quite exciting. The Wolverine screens at midnight tonight.
The Floyd Theater is located on the third floor of the Student Activities Center on the University of Louisville campus. Complete details can be found at the SAB Film Committee Facebook page.
