It's that time of year. The time to start training for the Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon. The race is just under 100 days away and I'm excited to run my first marathon. Before you can run a marathon or a half, you must train. Fortunately, there is a FREE 14-week training program and the first run starts tomorrow morning.
The first training run for runners participating in the Norton Sports Health Training Program is this Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at Swags Sports Shoes South location on Third Street. Runners in novice, intermediate and advanced levels will run two, three and four miles, respectively. Nutrition will be provided for runners at this first training run by Walmart. Plus, there will be TruMoo Chocolate Milk from Dean's. Weekly training runs will be held every Saturday at different locations throughout the city.
The 42nd annual 13.1-mile miniMarathon and 14th annual 26.2-mile Marathon start simultaneously at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Louisville on April 25. Registration for the 2015 races is open online at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com.
