The 7th Annual Bourbon Chase is set for October 16-17, 2015. It is a 200 mile long relay race, starting at the Jim Beam Distillery’s American Outpost in Clermont, KY and ending in Lexington, KY near the Rupp Arena at Triangle Park. The run will bring participants through scenic Kentucky country, small towns, and historic bourbon distilleries. At the end of the race, there will be prizes and bourbon baskets for the division winners as well as a celebration for all to partake in. There’ll be live music, local food, and samples of bourbon. There are still openings for charity teams and more information and registration can be found on their site.
The run is completed by teams, and each team consists of 12 people, each team member running three legs out of the 36 legs of the race. On average, each leg is about 5.5 miles, though there is a section that’s slightly over 3.1 miles and another that’s about 9 miles. There are only 400 team slots, and each team has to have an average pace of 10:30min/ mile so that the race can be finished within 35 hours or less.
Each year, the Bourbon Chase typically partners with various charities to help raise money, and this year, one of those charities is the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana. As a partner, the Alzheimer’s Association will be guaranteed ten team slots, all with free registration and the responsibility of raising at least $7,000 per team. The money will be used for Alzheimer’s support, care, and vital research.
Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease that affects the brain and leads to severe dementia. It is said that over 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s, and currently, there is no cure for it. The Alzheimer’s Association is striving to find a cure, to improve support of those with Alzheimer’s, and to reduce of the risks of acquiring this condition. As a partner of the Bourbon Chase, the Alzheimer’s Association is given a great opportunity to raise money for its cause as well as to increase public awareness and support of this widespread condition.
