Final public hearing The final public hearing regarding the future of the “teepee” pavilion at Hogan’s Fountain in Cherokee Park is slated for this coming Thursday, May 20.
Removal of the shelter, which has been a popular gathering spot for more than 40 years,
has been a hot-button issue since earlier this year
, when Louisville Metro Parks and the Olmsted Parks Conservancy unveiled a new plan for the Hogan’s Fountain area that included its replacement by a new 25-person shelter more in accord with the rest of the park’s structures. Park officials and engineers say that repairs to the existing structure would amount to at least the same amount of money as it would be to raze and rebuild it, while detractors oppose the change on the grounds that the original pavilion is an important community landmark.
