Yoga has saved me from unleashing my inner diabolical rage on my own children and those that I teach more times than I can count. And as I watch my son, jaws and fists clenched in fits of fury, tantrums spewing on the living room carpet, I know it would help him too. After all, I think he gets it from me.

Thank goodness Louisville has Owltree Yoga to add to the local yoga scene. Located at 1515 Story Avenue, Owltree Yoga specializes in wellness for kids and families and offers a selection of classes the entire family can enjoy. Wednesday through Saturday, the studio offers adult classes, couples/partner yoga, as well as classes for new mothers and babies, toddler yoga, kids yoga (some drop-off classes available, score!), and family yoga where the whole family can practice together. Classes range from $10-12 for drop-in sessions but offers through Groupon and detailed on their website, advertise deals ($30 for 2 Family Yoga classes with unlimited number of family members).

Owltree Yoga was founded by owners Heather and Alex Molina and their mission is to, according to their website, “. . . provide yoga and wellness classes to all members of the family, focusing on strengthening connections and relationships, while building strength and compassion within the self.”

Heather Collins Molina, MPH CPH has experience working with special needs children and families. Molina uses the power of yoga as a therapeutic approach to dealing with ADHD-like symptoms as well as with children suffering from behavior and emotional problems. Molina’s studio specializes in using the power of yoga to strengthen health, relationships, and community. Private classes are available.

I have not tried out the studio as of yet, but it is definitely on my to-do list. Meanwhile, I’ll practice my breathing, say a few ohms, and endure the balancing act of a downward dog with two children flipping overtop of me like a jungle-gym.
