Madcap Family Weekend at the Speed Art Museum
I'm amazed at how far the Speed Museum has come with creating such cool family programs. This weekend marks a winter celebration at the Speed Art Museum that will provide fun for the entire family. Join local artists in creating winter-themed works of art, explore galleries with family tours and join a workshop at the Art Sparks Family Studio. There are also performances by the Madcap Productions Puppet Theater of "Toby and the Ice Goblin" Saturday at 11 am and 1 pm, and Sunday 1 pm and 3 pm. Madcap Family weekend admission is free, the puppet show is $8 ($6 for members) and Art Sparks admission is $5 per person.
Perfect Princess Party at the Disney Store
This party at the Disney Store at Oxmoor Mall promises to show little girls how to be perfect princesses. Girls are encouraged to wear their favorite "princess dresses" to come learn "perfect princess" behavior like courtesying and waving. Yawn. I was more into mud-pies than makeup as a little girl, but I'm sure there are many princesses-in-training out there who would love this Disneyfied event. The party is this Saturday and Session 1 will take place from 11 am to 11:45 and Session 2 will be 1 pm- 1:45.
Walden Theater's Production of "The Crucible", by Arthur Miller, directed by Charlie Sexton
This play is set amidst the wake of the Salem Witch Trials, but reflects the playwright's disdain for the McCarthy Trials of the 1950's. I used to be a high school English teacher and taught this play every year, and I never grew tired of it. It's still one of my all-time favorite plays. I'm sure that under the direction of Charlie Sexton, the talented actors at Walden will put on an amazing production. The play runs through this weekend at Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
