Enjoy Farm-To-Table Dining At Isaac's Cafe At Bernheim

It’s Hometown Tourist Month in Louisville.  There are so many things to do around here sometimes we can overlook some of the best and oldest places to visit.  Bernheim Forest is one of those tried and true places to go for a hike, but did you know they also have an amazing farm-to-fork café?

I was recently invited to check out Isaac’s Café in the Visitor’s Center at Bernheim.  I must admit that even though I often take my kids hiking at Berheim, I had never eaten at the café. The majority of the food served is grown just steps away, in the edible garden.

I enjoyed a fresh miso soup with asparagus, radishes and greens. I tried a garden vegetable Panini with hummus, followed by a spring greens salad with fresh strawberries and a jalapeno vinaigrette.  It was a delicious meal, almost entirely grown steps away from where I was eating.

As more vegetables come in, Isaac’s Cafe will have more offerings on the menu.  Specials will change with the differing availability of the harvest.

After I enjoyed my meal, I went to check out some of the trails.  I discovered places I had only seen on the map before, such as the Canopy Tree Walk and Iron Ore Hill Loop Trail.  You can walk out on the Canopy Tree Walk and be above the tree tops.  The view is spectacular.

This Hometown Tourist Month, make a point to get out to Bernheim Forest and Arboretum for a farm-to-fork meal and a scenic hike.
