It’s awful quiet at Louisville’s landmark record store, ear X-tacy.
The store, which has come close to closure twice in the past year and eight months, reportedly did not open today. The shop’s Twitter account, http://twitter.com/earxtc, has vanished, and its Facebook page has been quiet since late Friday morning—unusual, given the high amount of online and onsite activity.
Although rumors of John Timmons’ shop definitely may be premature, many people are concerned.
“The lights were off. But it certainly wasn't open today. I tried to pick up a CD I ordered. On Wednesday they told me it would be there on Saturday to pick up,” reports one Facebook commenter, Cherise Mingus. Twitter has also been abuzz with people asking what’s going on.
Placards listing the store's hours of operation have been removed.
It is known that at least two employees are on vacation this week; let’s hope that someone just forgot to pay the light bill. Or got a little too friendly with the zombies at Thursday night’s Zombie Prom, held at the store.
Ear X-tacy opened in 1985 and has several Highlands locations before settling south of the Douglass Loop at 2226 Bardstown Road in June of 2010.
