The city of Louisville is known for horse racing, that’s all well and good but I ask you is a horse race nearly as cute as a duck race?

We’re coming up once again on the Ken-Ducky Derby, an annual rubber duckie race across the Ohio River. For eight years now Louisville’s second most famous derby has been raising funds for the Harbor House of Louisville, a genuinely incredible organization that aids those with disabilities and the families and friends who love them.

This year’s event kicks off on Saturday at noon at the Festival Plaza near Joe’s Crab Shack, and in addition to the annual race will feature a family friendly festival where all are welcome. The festival will feature live music, kids’ activities, arts and crafts, a corn-hole tournament and more.

The actual race’s start time is three and entrants into the race have a chance to win a Hondo Fit, savings bonds, or even a million dollars, in association with Joe’s Crab Shack’s million dollar duck.

If you’re looking to participate you can adopt a duck at their website or get adoption papers from any area Kroger. A single duck is five dollars, or of course you can build a dominant duck dynasty team with quack packs that range from 6 to 30 ducks. In any case, all proceeds from this event go right to the Harbor House.

Of course, if you just want to back a duck you can donate to their quest for the yellow gold at the website, either way there goal this year is to raise 5,000 dollars for charity and every dime counts.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
