The Derby City Dynamite just concluded their season on Saturday with a game against the Tennessee Train, exiting with the same excitement that they entered with.
Slowly but surely the Dynamite, Louisville’s women’s tackle football team has been gaining steam recently.
For many serious women’s tackle football is a new idea, but none the less an idea whose time has come. So says the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), the league in which the Dynamite plays. The WFA boasts fifty teams all around the country within two divisions, for Derby City who plays in the NFC’s Division III their inner conference rivals include the Cincinnati Sizzle, the Cleveland Fusion, and the Toledo Reign.

The Dynamite even had a stand out to make it to the leagues All Star team, with center Tee Banks.                                                                                                                                                           Don’t think that these women play any lighter than the guys in the NFL because when one watches a game starring these “tough chicks” one has to be impressed by their sheer tenacity. The team plays pro football rules and with that same aggressiveness.
In addition the Dynamite are always looking for new local talent that might be interested in contributing to the team by stepping on the field themselves and interested women are encouraged to contact the team and fill out a “Player Form.”
In addition to players the team is also looking for coaches who might be able to lead some specialized or generalized expertise to the team, in their quest for all around team betterment.                                                                                              Image courtesy of the Derby City Dynamite

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
