“I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french-fried potatoes.  Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer,  Well good god almighty which way do I steer for my…Cheeseburger in paradise”

Jimmy Buffet sings it, but now you can live it. Derby time is paradise in Kentucky and everyone has a burger recipe. A “go to” burger creation when friends or family are coming over.  Well, This year it might finally pay off for you in the  “Derby Burger Challenge”.

The Kentucky Beef Council and the Kentucky Derby Festival want to find the most mouth-watering burger recipe (cheese optional). Now through April 1st , you can submit your recipe in the new “Derby Burger Challenge,” sponsored by the Kentucky Beef Council. It’s simple to join in, just submit your recipe online at www.kdf.org till April 1.

There’s fame:  the winning burger recipe will be recognized in Louisville-area Kroger stores, as well as being served to guests at the KDF Derby Eve Jam Pre-Party on May 4 at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. There’s fortune: the winner gets VIP tickets to the Derby Eve Jam concert, PLUS a year’s supply of ground beef and a grilling package from Kroger and the Kentucky Beef Council.

“We have terrific backyard barbeque enthusiasts in Kentucky and we also raise and produce great beef here. This contest is an excellent way to combine the two,” said Chuck Crutcher, Chairman of the Kentucky Beef Council and beef farmer from Rineyville, KY.

So dust off Uncle Sammy’s “pineapple/blue burger” recipe or Mom’s “Mac & Cheese Burger Bites” and enter.  Or maybe as Jimmy Buffet sings, maybe simple is the way to go:

"Heaven on earth with an onion slice, not too particular not too precise - just a (burger) in paradise"
