Wasting the day away behind mini blinds, or cubicle work walls while the sun shines bright on the world outdoors can be a real pain in the ass. It makes the senses work overtime because they too are being hidden behind dull colored walls of beige and eggshell white, suffering from boredom and fighting the batting of tired and dreary eyes. The only thing on my mind when Friday rolls around and the plants are in the their full on spring bloom is ripping and running, punching that time card, and turning the motor over in my car so that I can get as far away from my employer as heavenly possible in the shortest amount of time. I don't condone drinking and driving, but I've done enough of it in my life to know that I'm damn good at it, or at least my track record has yet to show fault, and if a bottle were cracked, cold, and in my lap I'd have to indulge, put the suds to my lips, and take a hearty swill. But since my alcoholism is controlled, confined, and responsible, there is no drink in my lap, but there's a phone pressed between my ear and shoulder while I'm excitedly setting up a rendezvous with a group of friends. There's nothing like that first Friday early evening drink, eyes closed, head tilted back, as the contents of your chosen poison tip to and fro like uneasy bottled seas, splashing from one side to the next. Be responsible, go easy, and have a good time this weekend while you have the luxury of time being on your hands, because you never quite know when that last grain of sand is going to fall from your grasp.
