Never thought windows were important or interesting?
Evidently, Tina Ward-Pugh and the Clifton Architectural Review Committee think otherwise.
After lots of work by both parties, new Clifton Windows Guidelines were approved this week by the Landmarks commission and will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Committee of the Metro Council on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
What is so important about windows in Clifton? Well, you can read the entire document that outlines the proposed guideline revisions HERE, but in short, it all has to do with preserving the historic quality and presence of the neighborhood. These guidelines require “historic windows on street-address facades and street-facing facades” to “not be replaced with new windows unless the Clifton ARC determines that the condition of existing windows, safety or energy efficiency considerations, or other relevant factors support window replacement” and these guideline modifications will change some of the ways that this is done.
Who knew having a cool, old building was so complicated?
If the Planning and Zoning Committee approves of the changes, they will next be voted on at the Metro Council meeting December 13th at which time they will officially be approved.
