
Sunday marks the return of racing at Churchill Downs as the track itself prepares for the Breeders' Cup; one of the most prestigious equine events of the year the cup will last two days from November fourth through the fifth and in that time fifteen races will span that features the strongest competitors in the world.
The importance of this event is often overshadowed by the historic Kentucky Derby, however the Breeder’s Cup offers essentially more in sheer quantity of quality races with strong horses and quality jockeys. This is noted by the 26 million dollars that will be won during the event.

In addition the track is closing out the season with event like November 11th’s College Scholarship Day which will feature live music from Grammy Nominated country singer-songwriter, David Nail and free admission for students. Prizes will also be given out including scholarships for students.
Then on November 18th during the track’s Downs After Dark series, Budweiser Select presents Animal Kingdom night, where people are encouraged to wear animal print and the like in a themed evening.
Meanwhile race days will occur throughout the month, for a calendar check out their website here. That is, until November 27th when the track will close for the season.
Other race days for track enthusiasts to take note of include November 6th’s Cardinal Handicap Race in which the purse is at $100,000; the Mrs. Revere race November 12th, the River City Handicap Race November 19th, November 24th’s Falls City Handicap among others.
So, consider this a call to all horse racing fans, folks this is your time unless you want to wait until 2012.
